Service Description

A full jam packed weekend at Chillingham Castle learning about all things scent related. You will have a day with Laura Roberts from K9 Find it, a day with Claire Brown from NorthK9 & Scent & Track with & you will get to have a Castle tour! Laura has been fascinated by the olfactory skills of dogs for over a decade, leading her to explore a variety of disciplines. She has qualified and deployed two of her hounds as scent specific trailing dogs with the police, and currently trains her own dogs in HRD & digital hardware detection. A qualified instructor with both UK & Dutch organisations, she enjoys the variety of methodologies available to students of the nosework sports, seeking to find the most appropriate way to solve the problems teams face throughout their journey. Laura has a particular love for “the geeky stuff”, including the impact of ethology, air flow & environmental impacts on odour, & independence vs interdependence of the human/dog team during the search. Laura's workshop - Temptation & Turbulence: internal & external influences on the search dog. Morning - primary reinforcers in the search area, working through distractions that might mean more than your odour. Can you pass the test? Afternoon - where is the source? Where is the scent? Why are they not always in the same place? An exploration of how the environment impacts odour movement. Claire has owned Northk9 for 12 years, and co-own scent and track uk with Jemma.
